The Spanish partners EREN and Escan promote the use of biomass in buildings and homes, replacing fossil fuels. Through the collaboration of the Working Group created in the project, environmentally friendly facilities are being developed in Castilla y León and other regions. The manufacturer Hargassner, as a member of the GT, has installed heating and hot water systems replacing old diesel systems, achieving savings of 60% in the case of pellets and close to 80% with chips. The boilers are multi-fuel, accepting other types by changing a parameter on their touch-tronic.

Escan monitors the entire process and embeds specific labels on buildings and boiler rooms that meet efficiency and low pollution targets. The latest verification visits show two 120 kW installations to heat a town hall and a museum building. Another installation with two 150 kW unit boilers for five buildings in the same town. Another town with two 220 kW units with a buried chip silo that heats a nursery school, a school, civic center, and town hall. The replacement of heating oil with pellets and chips presents high energy and economic savings within the objectives of the REPLACE project.
