The Cabildo of Gran Canaria, together with the specialized consultancy Escan and with the support of the Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving (IDAE), is driving the transition toward a more sustainable energy model through the launch of the European project LIFE 4ENERAGENCIES, which aims to create four new local energy agencies in Spain: three in associations of municipalities in Gran Canaria and one in Rivas Vaciamadrid (Madrid).

The initiative, which began in October 2025, seeks to promote renewable energy generation, collective self-consumption, energy efficiency, and electric mobility, with the goal of increasing renewable penetration in the electricity mix by 2030. Escan contributes its technical expertise in methodological design, strategic planning, and support for local entities, ensuring that the new agencies become effective and sustainable structures.

With the backing of the European Union’s LIFE program and the participation of entities such as the Gran Canaria Island Energy Council (CICGC) and the European Federation of Agencies and Regions for Energy and Environment (FEDARENE), the project has a budget of €2.46 million and will run until 2029, positioning Gran Canaria as a benchmark in energy decentralization and the fight against climate change.
