Escan, as lead organization for POWER-E-COM in Spain, is providing with technical assistance for the development of a new energy community in Montilla, focused on clean energy, social inclusion, and local sustainability. In collaboration with the Municipality of Rivas, the energy community has foreseen to install a solar photovoltaic system on the roof of a municipal building, generating around 30% of the electricity consumed by participating households and businesses. These installations will preserve agricultural land and dedicate aproximately10% of their energy to the City Council for public buildings and social support.
This community model allows families without the means or space for individual solar systems to benefit from shared renewable energy, lowering their electricity bills while keeping their current energy contracts. Small businesses will also gain from reduced costs, enabling reinvestment in growth and productivity. Escan is providing strategic leadership and technical expertise, guiding feasibility studies, energy sharing models, and exploring future solutions such as battery storage and solar thermal systems.
The project is designed to grow, welcoming more members and expanding renewable technologies. It also supports local job creation and emissions reduction, reinforcing Montilla’s commitment to a greener and more inclusive future.
